Community

It is important to us that Ras Mbisi Lodge doesn’t exploit the area that is our home, but contributes to the lives of our neighbours and helps protect this beautiful area.

As a result, we try to make as much use as we can of one of our most abundant and sustainable sources: coco-wood. Our power is supplied by a biomass gasifier that is fuelled by waste.  Our principal building material is also coco-wood.  In addition, we harness the tropical sun with our solar heated water. Our soap, available in all our rooms, is made locally from virgin coconut oil. Our employees are also local, and trained here at Ras Mbisi.

We are developing a community project that will be one of the first such projects in the area, raising money for desks at Chungaruma school.
